Why I’m Running for School Board
The Students. My oldest starts 4k at Brookfield Elementary in the fall. I want to ensure that my kids, and all students in our district, receive the same world-class public education that I obtained as a student in the Elmbrook Schools. For as long as I can remember, Elmbrook has been synonymous with excellence, and I’m committed to ensuring that tradition continues.
Our Educators. Teachers serve as the backbone of our district. With teachers increasingly leaving the profession and the pipeline of new teachers decreasing nationally, we must continue to foster a supportive environment that attracts and retains the best teachers for Elmbrook.
Your Voice. Parent, Student, or Community Member, your voice matters. The board, our administrators and the district work for the Elmbrook community. Your feedback and input should be genuinely sought. Our board should gather a variety of community perspectives, and treat community members with respect. While all board members bring their own expertise and values, we must raise up community opinions to ensure that all voices are heard.
Key Positions
As a candidate for the Elmbrook School Board, I am committed to ensuring that our schools serve every student with excellence, transparency, and accountability. My priorities focus on fostering a student-centered education, maintaining fiscal responsibility, and strengthening trust between the community and the School Board.
On this page, you’ll find my key positions on critical issues, including my opposition to book banning, my belief in a non-partisan School Board, and my commitment to evidence-based decision-making. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and students to create a thriving educational environment that prepares every student for success.
Together, we can build a stronger future for Elmbrook schools.
-
I believe that school board members should be non-partisan. Public schools are intended to serve the needs of every student in the community.
I am running as a non-partisan candidate that refuses to coordinate or receive support from any political party. All of my campaign contributions have come from individuals.
I believe that our community knows what is best for our schools, not any political party.
I will work to keep politics and political agendas out of our schools.
-
The school board should provide high-level oversight over administration and the district, set the strategic vision for the school district, and establish goals to measure attainment of the strategic vision. Administration’s role should be to implement the school board’s strategic vision.
The school board’s primary responsibilities should include hiring and evaluating the superintendent, reviewing and updating policies, adopting a budget and allocating resources to achieve the strategic vision set by the school board, and engaging with the community to ensure responsiveness to community needs and perspectives.
-
I believe that Elmbrook should foster collaboration between parents, students, and teachers to understand and craft a plan to achieve post-graduation goals for each student.
Each student’s education plan should be focused on maximizing learning through evidence based practices.
-
Elmbrook’s current teacher retention rate stands north of 90%, but with teacher shortages across the state and country, we must not take our educators for granted.
Our educators are critical to the success of our students. Educators inspire, cultivate critical thinking, and help drive student success.
I believe that we must continue to foster an environment where our educators feel valued through: 1) open and honest communication; 2) recognition of our educators as experts in their field and professional development opportunities; and 3) competitive compensation and benefits.
-
Elmbrook has avoided referendums for over a decade, while 148 Wisconsin school districts went to an operational referendum in 2024 alone. Elmbrook must continue its fiscal responsibility towards taxpayers.
Elmbrook should continue its strategic long-term planning and understand its future funding needs by taking into account facility maintenance needs, projected enrollment changes, and increases in cost for staff and operations.
The district should advocate for increased state funding, and maximize federal aid, to supplement local property tax revenues.
The board should continuously look for district operational efficiencies and engage with stakeholders on allocating resources for continued educational excellence.
-
Evidence-based decision-making improves student outcomes. It moves us towards programs and innovations that work, like the science of reading and later school start times.
Evidence-based decision-making allows effective resource allocation, while minimizing concerns of bias and subjectivity.
Evidence-based decision-making promotes accountability and transparency with students, parents, staff and the community.
-
I oppose banning age-appropriate materials from public school libraries because it violates free speech, restricts learning, and limits critical thinking.
Parents should decide what is suitable for their own children, while schools ensure transparency through audits and improved parent communication.
I spoke out against removal of The Kite Runner and The Handmaid’s Tale from AP Literature and Composition Class.
-
I’m committed to reforging community bonds, across politics and ideologies, through open, transparent communication and engagement.
I believe that evidence-based decision-making can aid in creating community bonds by re-centering discussions on shared facts, free of biased viewpoints.
-
Our board members should serve as role models for the Elmbrook community, and especially, our students.
I am committed to always treating every board member with respect.
Board member should be able to have disagreements without animosity.
